Now is a Time for Growth

Via RealClearPolitics by Eugene Robinson, Washington Post

It’s fine to talk — eventually — about chronic deficits and mounting debt. But now that our government is up and running again, the nation’s first priority should be economic growth.

Sorry if this gives conniptions to all you deficit hawks out there. Actually, I’m not that sorry, because it was the hawks’ over-the-top warnings of impending doom that provided intellectual cover for the meat-cleaver budget cuts we’re living with today.

The Government Shutdown: One Company’s Perspective

The Government Shutdown: One Company’s Perspective

Via govexec.com by Alan Pentz, Corner Alliance

Now that we are into the third week of this shutdown, I wanted to give a perspective on the shutdown from a small federal contracting firm. Furloughed feds were on display last night at the annual Service to America Medals. The Oscars for federal employees.

Week One of the government shutdown — in 9 images

It’s been a strange week in Washington. More than 800,000 federal workers are on furlough. Congress continues to work — but doesn’t seem to be accomplishing much. The expected — and unexpected — consequences of shutting down a industry town continue to be felt in ways big and little.
